When you need a new system
- New construction on a lot without town sewer
- A drain field that has failed and can't be repaired
- A steel tank that has rusted through, or a concrete tank that's cracked
- An addition or bedroom count that exceeds the system's design
- A system that predates the current site conditions or setbacks
How installation works in Maine
Every new or replacement system in Maine starts with a site evaluation by a licensed site evaluator and a design (the HHE-200 form) submitted to your town's Local Plumbing Inspector. That design sets the tank size, the field type and the location. Nest and Sons builds to that design, coordinates the inspections, and handles the excavation, installation, backfill and restoration.
- Site evaluation and design coordination
- Permit and LPI inspection scheduling
- Excavation, including ledge and frozen ground when the season demands it
- Tank setting: precast concrete, sized to the design
- Distribution box and drain field: stone-and-pipe, chamber or as designed
- Pump systems and alarms where elevation requires them
- Backfill, compaction, grading and seeding
Tank replacement without replacing the field
If the field is healthy and only the tank has failed, we replace the tank alone. We pump and remove the old tank, set a new precast tank, reconnect inlet and outlet, and install risers to grade so future pumping is a lid lift instead of a dig. Most tank swaps are a one-day job.
What to expect on install day
An excavator, a dump truck, a crew and a hole in the yard. We stake the layout, protect what we can, and tell you what will be disturbed before we start. When the work is done we backfill, grade and seed. Restoration is part of the quote, not an extra.

James DesrosiersGoogle reviewWhat a great experience!! My first interaction was with Kathy who answered my call right at 8 am when they opened. She was so very pleasant and professional over the phone. She assured me that someone could come out the same day.
Liz BrownGoogle reviewI was in a very emergency situation with a crushed septic pipe at a fully occupied multi unit. Taylor and his team took my call, reshuffled their day and were onsite within a couple hours, excavator and all!! They were respectful.
