Quality service below the surface

Nest and Sons started in Kennebunk in 1969 and never left. More than 50 years of local soil, Maine codes and cold-weather work means we know which roads have ledge two feet down and how deep the frost gets in a bad February.

We run our own pump trucks, hydrovac trucks and excavators. One call covers the pump-out, the repair and the dig instead of three contractors pointing at each other. No-nonsense service, transparent pricing, work that holds up in Maine ground.

Questions we get every week

Septic FAQ for Maine homeowners

How often should a septic tank be pumped in Maine?
Most Maine households are on a 2 to 3 year cycle. Tank size, number of people in the home, and a garbage disposal move that window. If you don't know when it was last pumped, schedule a pump-out and we'll record the baseline for you. More on septic tank pumping.
How much does septic tank pumping cost?
Pumping is priced by tank size and access. Call with your town and tank size (1,000 gallon is typical for a 3-bedroom Maine home) and we'll quote it on the phone. Digging to locate a buried lid or a hard-to-reach tank is quoted separately, before the work.
Do you offer emergency septic service after hours?
Yes. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. After-hours emergency calls are available for backups, overflows and frozen lines. Additional fees apply after hours.
What is hydrovac excavation and when do I need it?
Hydrovac uses pressurized water to loosen soil and a vacuum truck to remove it, exposing buried utilities without a bucket touching the line. Contractors and utilities use it for potholing, daylighting and trenching near gas, electric, fiber and water. It also digs frozen ground in winter when a bucket can't. See hydrovac services.
Can you find my septic tank if I don't know where it is?
Yes. We trace the line from the house, locate the tank and lids, and can map the system for you. If lids are buried, we install risers so the next pump-out doesn't need a shovel. See septic repair.
Do you rent portable toilets?
No. We pump and clean holding tanks for job sites, camps and events, but we don't rent portable toilets.
